Wie nicht wenige seiner Werke liegt auch Schumanns Opus 14 in zwei Fassungen vor – als dreisätziges `Concert sans Orchestre` von 1836 und als `Grande Sonate` in fünf Sätzen von 1853. Über die Gründe für die Überarbeitung wissen wir nichts Genaues; der Verleger der Erstfassung äußerte jedoch begeistert, er hielte die `Idee mit dem Concert` für sehr zeitgemäß. Möglicherweise griff Schumann später die Anregung des Widmungsempfängers Ignaz Moscheles auf, das Stück habe `weniger die Erfordernisse eines Concertes, und mehr die Eigenheiten einer großen Sonate`. In unserer revidierten Ausgabe, die nun auch die Frühfassung vollständig abdruckt, kommentiert der Herausgeber Ernst Herttrich beide Fassungen in einem eigenen ausführlichen Textteil / As is the case with quite a few of his works, there are two versions of Schumann’s opus 14 – a three-movement `Concert sans Orchestre` from 1836 and a `Grande Sonate` in five movements from 1853. We do not know the reason for the revision; the publisher of the first version was, however, delighted; he considered the `idea of the concerto` to be very up-to-date. Perhaps Schumann later reacted to what the dedicatee Ignaz Moscheles had said that the piece had `less of the demands of a concerto and more the characteristics of a grand sonata`. In our revised edition, which now also contains the complete early version, the editor Ernst Herttrich provides detailed information on both versions in an extensive preface and commentary / Comme nombre des œuvres de Schumann, l’opus 14 se présente selon deux versions, à savoir, le `Concert sans Orchestre` en trois mouvements de 1836 et, en cinq mouvements, la `Grande Sonate` datant de 1853; nous ne savons rien de précis sur les raisons de cet arrangement; toutefois l’éditeur de la première version s’est exprimé avec enthousiasme, disant qu’il tenait pour très moderne l’`idée avec le Concert`. Éventuellement, Schumann a repris plus tard la suggestion du dédicataire, Ignaz Moscheles, pour qui le morceau présentait `moins les exigences d’un concerto et plus les caractéristiques d’une grande sonate`. Dans notre édition révisée, qui inclut entièrement la première version, Ernst Herttrich, l’éditeur responsable, commente les deux versions dans un texte circonstancié
